On Friday February 4, 2022, Miller Grove HS culinary arts students participated in the Region 5 Culinary Arts FCCLA (Family, Career and Community Leaders of America) STAR Event Competition held at the Art Institute of Atlanta.
The assigned menu for event was Crispy Buttermilk Fried Chicken, Macaroni and Cheese, Turnip Greens and Southern Hoe Cakes with Honey Butter.
Students Taking Action with Recognition (STAR) Events are competitive events in which members compete at the region/district, state, and national level and are recognized for proficiency and achievement in chapter and individual projects, leadership skills, and career preparation. STAR Events allow students to compete individually or as a team.
Miller Grove HS was awarded FIRST place (GOLD) advancing them to state for the next round of competition. State STAR events will be held in Athens, GA March 24-26, 2022.
The culinary team is coached by former culinary student and graduate Au'Niyah Bell. The culinary program at MGHS is lead by Chef Keio C. Gayden.
