Twisted Soul Cookhouse & Pours’ Chef Deborah VanTrece is no stranger to new adventures and thinking on her feet. For 25 years she traveled the globe as a flight attendant, soaking in the sights, sounds, and the food of different cultures and climates. The experience influenced her cooking style and her ability to quickly adapt to situations.
When COVID-19 changed the world, she shut down her Westside restaurant and put together meal kits for her diners. This made sure restaurant products wouldn’t go to waste and people newly stuck at home had a delicious project to work on in their own kitchen. In the event of an emergency, please assume the bracing position. By March 25, she made her specialties to-go with a pay-as-you-can model to help her struggling community.

On May 2, 2020 “A Different Kind of Chick” pop-up opened out of Twisted Soul. The logo is VanTrece as a chicken. It runs Saturdays from noon to 8PM and Sundays from 11 AM to 3 PM with a full menu of specialties made with Springer Mountain Farms chicken. Appetizers of deviled eggs are called “Baby Chicks.” Honey marinated wings are “Hot Chicks.” The famous Southern marinated “Georgia Chick” is a best seller and her “Well Traveled Chick” is grilled with peri-peri sauce.
“A Bird in the Hand” is her menu of sandwiches, served with seasoned fries. You’ll find Twisted Souls brunch favorite chicken and waffles as “Morning After Chick.” You can even take home a quart of “Feel Good Chick” broth for a bowl of comfort. Sides are made from locally sourced ingredients and there is always a dessert of the day—this one is not made from chicken.
The flight attendants are currently passing around the cabin to make a final check. Orders can be taken over the phone or from the host outside from your car. There are spaces marked on the floor 6-feet apart. Everyone is masked. A Different Kind of Chick orders can be placed online, by phone and through Zifty delivery.
